Information on common pests.
Cockroaches- They are a public health risk. They are responsible for the mechanical transfer of many human diseases, in particular intestinal diseases such as salmonella food poisoning. They also contaminate food products, utensils and other areas with droppings, egg casings, regurgitation marks and dead bodies.
Mosquitoes-Bites from infected mosquitoes cause malaria, a life-threatening disease that still remains one of the top killers of children in the world. For prevention, we also advice that you let us treat the indoors of your premises with indoor-residual sprays that guarantee a long period free of mosquitoes.
Ants-Ants are a nuisance. Their invasion of pantries, kitchens and bathrooms are notoriously annoying and can be costly if food items need to be thrown out. Their role in mechanical disease transmission cannot be overlooked as they scavenge for food in garbage bins, dog excrement and other possible sources of disease.
Spiders-Spiders are dangerous. Apart from unsightly webs around a dwelling, spiders can inflict a painful bite, sometimes resulting in complications, hospitalization and even death.
Silverfish-Silverfish can be destructive. They feed on most types of human food but seem to prefer starchy materials. Damage can occur when silverfish feed on items such as paper, photographs, books, wallpaper, cottons and linens.
Carpet Beetle-Carpet beetles don’t just eat carpet. The larvae of Carpet Beetle may feed on or in wool, fur, hair, silk, clothes, fabrics, rugs, under felts, felts, fibre-type insulation,
Fleas-Fleas are impossible to live with. Their bites can cause severe irritation and their role in disease transmission is well documented.
Wasps-The Paper Nest wasp can often be found building its nests just about anywhere around the exterior of our buildings and yards. They inflict a very painful sting and are aggressive when disturbed or confronted.
Bedbugs-Although bed bugs do not seem to be involved with any serious disease transmission, their bites at night can prove very irritating, even unbearable at times. They have piercing and sucking mouthparts and are blood suckers at all stages of their development. The bed bug is of wide distribution throughout the world and is typically associated with the sleeping quarters of hotels, motels, hostels and dormitory type facilities. . As they are transported around in furniture, luggage, clothes etc, they can establish themselves in domestic situations after people have returned from holidays or business trips. Bed bugs spend most of their time hiding in places such as behind skirting boards and architraves, cracks and crevices in furniture, behind wallpaper and in bedding. They then leave their harbourage areas in the early hours of the morning in search of the host animal, which primarily is humans, however other animals such as cats and dogs can serve for feeding.
Bird Lice-Bird lice, as they are commonly known, are actually mites.
Rats and Mice-The presence of rats and mice in buildings and dwellings is usually regarded as undesirable as they are responsible for food spoilage and contamination, physical damage as well as the transmission of disease.
Termites (pre & post construction)-Termites are the single biggest threat to your number one investment……the family home, factories, estates, fields and compounds.
